FREE bus travel for Car Free Day - Tuesday 22 September

Tuesday 22 September, travel is FREE on all CityLink, SchoolLink and BusLink services: Far North Link, Hokianga Link, Mid North Link and Hikurangi Link. Leave the car at home and give the bus a go!

Maunu Bus Route 6: Possible Minor Delays on Wed 2 September

Temporary stop/go traffic management will be on State Highway 14 near Barge Park.
All bus stops will remain open, Route 6 buses will have priority, but passengers may experience minor delays.

Have you caught the Far North Link bus yet? Mangonui to Kaitaia and back Monday to Friday, weekly to Kaitaia from Pukenui and Ahipara and the Kaitaia service 3x weekly. Check out timetables below!

FREE bus travel for World Car Free Day

Get on board for FREE travel on all CityLink, SchoolLink and BusLink services on Tuesday 22 September 2026 to mark World Car Free Day.

BusLink services running on Tuesday 22 September are the Hokianga Link, Mid North Link, Hikurangi Link and Far North Link (Mangonui-Kaitaia and Kaitaia Service), CityLink and SchoolLink buses in Whangārei will also be free all day.

World Car Free Day encourages people to try different ways of getting around, and choosing public transport helps reduce emissions, supports cleaner air and makes it easier for people to stay connected with work, study, appointments, shops, friends and whānau.

Whether you are a regular passenger or have not caught the bus before, Tuesday 22 September is a great day to give it a go. Check timetables and plan your trip before you travel.
